Dorothy Movie Review & Rating!

Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Dorothy’ starring Keerthy Suresh got a negative response in Tamil. Now, the film is releasing in Telugu under Rana’s Spirit Media banner. The question is whether ‘Dorothy’ will impress Telugu audiences. Let’s find out.

Dorothy Story: Subbu (Sananth) and Karthi (Rishikanth) are best friends, with Karthi growing up in Subbu’s house. Their lives change after Subbu’s father Veeraiah, who is strict about caste and family honour, misunderstands Subbu and his daughter-in-law Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh).

After Dorothy’s tragic death, Subbu takes a step against his father’s wishes. This creates a major conflict and changes the lives of both friends. Why does Veeraiah later ask Karthi to kill Subbu? The answer forms the core of the story.

Performances: Keerthy Suresh, though seen briefly, plays the title role and drives the story. Sananth impresses in his three-shaded role as Subbu, especially in the second half. Rishikanth is effective as Karthi, while Muthu Kumar stands out as Veeraiah with his commanding screen presence and whistle.

Technical Aspects: Karthik Subbaraj delivers a strong first half with good emotion and a gripping interval, but the second half loses momentum and the climax lacks a proper conclusion. The film looks technically strong, especially in recreating the 1990s period.

The camera work and Ilaiyaraaja’s music are effective. However, the second half could have been trimmed considerably, as the lengthy runtime and unresolved questions test the audience’s patience.

Analysis: With Dorothy, Karthik Subbaraj attempts to explore a different subject, but the execution feels incomplete. The confusing narration and lack of clarity leave the audience with several questions by the end.

Verdict: Dorothy starts with an engaging first half and strong performances, but the slow and confusing second half, along with an unclear climax, makes it a disappointing watch.

Bottom Line: Engaging start, confusing ending.

Rating: 2/5
